I’ve known how to ride a bike for nearly 27 years so it is has been a while since I’ve asked someone to teach me how to ride. I am familiar with how it’s done. I am familiar with the balance needed, where to place my feet, how to speed up and slow down, how not to fall. It’s something not easily forgotten. We all know the cliche saying, “It’s like riding a bike.”
This past weekend, I watched footage of the Olympic cyclists as they competed in the road race. Watching them ride with passion and skill and beauty made me realize I know very little about riding a bike! These guys are good. There is something completely different about they way they ride. I can pedal, but these guys can ride. Seeing them ride made me realize the limited amount I actually know about riding a bike.
I have to think this is what the disciples experienced when they saw Jesus pray for the first time.
